04/19: Naples, manifestation against the Foreign Minister G7 in Capri, pro-Palestine chants

In Naples the activists, who left Piazza Garibaldi shortly after 9.30am, chanted against the G7 in Capri and displayed Palestinian flags and signs reading "stop genocide". There were also several chants against the government and Prime Minister Meloni.

The demonstrators reached the Immacolatella pier with the intention of reaching the embarkation point. During the attempt, scuffles broke out with the police in riot gear who repelled them. Also at the head of the procession were rubber donuts depicting watermelons.

Today there are demonstrations in various Italian cities.
From Turin to Naples students in the streets for the climate and for the ceasefire in the Middle East

In Rome, a delegation of students attending La Sapienza University joined the procession for the climate and for the ceasefire. Throughout the day, the squares of other Italian cities, such as Naples, Turin, Trieste and Catania, were also animated .

The procession of high school university students started from Sapienza in Rome and reached the Fridays for Future demonstration in Piazza dell'Esquilino arriving from Piazza della Repubblica.

Meanwhile at La Sapienza it is the third day of hunger strike for some students, chained under the rector's office, protesting against the university's agreements with Israeli academic and research bodies.
Oggi hanno incontrato la rettrice Antonella Polimeni. ''L'incontro non è andato come ci aspettavamo'', hanno detto, convocando una conferenza stampa alle 19 al rettorato dell'ateneo.

"Tonight, Israel attacked Iran, the risk of military escalation has become a reality and threatens humanity and our future", writes the Cambiare route collective on social media: "In the meantime, Rector Polimeni of Italy's largest university he doesn't even bother to question our university's military research and continues to deny dialogue with students."

"This morning the rest of us will participate in the procession in the Global Climate Strike because the environmentalist struggle cannot ignore a society free from wars and genocide. Tomorrow morning at 10 am at the Nuovo Cinema Aquila we will then bring the university struggle to the national assembly which will discuss of the need to build a national mobilization against the Meloni Government and complicity with the war". "We continue and await the opening of dialogue from Rector Polimeni", concludes Cambiare route.

Students marching in Milan, actions against McDonald's, KFC and against an Eni distributor
Around 200 Milanese students took part in the procession organized by Fridays for Future on the day of the global strike for the climate: they entered KFC in Piazza XXIV Maggio, a well-known American fast food restaurant, and shouting "free free Palestine", they brought banners with them and a Palestinian flag. Over the megaphone, they explained that the company is dedicated to the "exploitation of animals, polluting the planet".

The students then moved to McDonald's, "complicit in a genocide", where they lit smoke bombs. A cardboard installation representing a portion of McDonald's fries with earth and two missiles inside was also exhibited there. Similar actions were carried out in front of an Eni petrol station, where a banner reading "Eni boycott tour, stop genocide" was displayed and at the Science Museum. The procession finally ended in Piazza XXIV Maggio.

Turin: "Climate, peace and work"
"Climate peace work": behind this banner, around a thousand environmental activists took part in the procession, joining the Fridays For Future demonstration in Turin. They gathered in front of the Porta Nuova train station to "protest against the interests that hinder climate and social justice by exacerbating or generating instability and conflicts", as they explained. Along with the young environmentalists there are also trade unions, student collectives, social centers and pro-Palestine groups.
"The Fridays For Future - they say - are taking to the streets together with the Palestinian movements to ask for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip given that fossil lobbies continue to finance those responsible for wars, colonialism and genocides".

"You are seven of us 99%. Against the G7 climate, environment, energy. Popular demonstration on 28 April in Venaria" and again "One fight only", we read on two banners. The procession will arrive in front of the Piedmont Skyscraper, headquarters of the Region.

Students in Trieste against the Tal-Siot transalpine oil pipeline and the cable car
A procession wound through the streets of central Trieste for the global climate strike. Among the signs displayed by the group, "no more gas, we want renewables" and "justice for the planet". "Today the global strike for the climate is taking place all over the world - it was said into the microphone before leaving - the slogan this year is 'let's take back the future'. They have already taken it from us and sold it. Sold to those who produce weapons or does not exploit green energy. We ask for the transition towards renewables, but also initiatives towards a greener world in which people can see their rights respected".

The aim of the protest, which was attended by around fifty people, is "to denounce the interests that hinder climate and social justice by generating instability and a piecemeal global conflict".

And again, as we read in the presentation manifesto, "we must take back the future and act for collective well-being, stopping new fossil projects such as the strengthening of the transalpine Tal-Siot oil pipeline and defending our territories from useless and impactful projects, such as the 'gondola always here in Trieste". During the demonstration there was also support for the Palestinian movements, "to ask for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Palestine"A Firenze la “convergenza climatica da fabbriche a scuole”

In Florence, the Fridays for Future protest met with that of the GKN workers: "From factories to schools, climate convergence", said a banner that was displayed in front of the regional council.

However, the environmental issue remains central. Edoardo Falchini, activist of Fridays for future in Florence, explained that the event was promoted to "remember the urgency of the climate crisis and how little time we have to act. We ask politicians for public intervention on the renewable energy industry and sustainable mobility".

On environmental and climate policies - commented the Minister of the Environment Gilberto Pichetto - "the involvement of young people can lead to making a leap in quality. Participating in change with legitimate protest is important, but participating with the proposal is the most important thing".

The Genoa demonstration
In Piazza De Ferrari in Genoa, grandmother Franca, 88 years old, and her granddaughter Maya, who is 22 years old, met together. "It's a battle that unites us all - said grandmother Franca -: we are in the square for the climate, for the land, for the seas and for the animals. Defending these things should be everyone's priority duty and right."

On the street with girls and boys we saw trade unionists from the CGIL (the national secretariat joined the strike), MPs from AVS (such as the group leader Peppe De Cristofaro) and the candidate of the Five Star Movement for the presidency of the Piedmont Region, Sarah Disabato.
